A Wensleydale barn
First draw simple distant hills and barn with 2 doors and lime stone wall .
For the sky i used cobalt blue mixed with white and applied it in a cris cross
motion adding more white as you get lower, then with just white add the clouds.
For the far hills i used rew siena ( weak ) with a tad of paynes gray but just a tad !
Then add a tad of cad yellow with white for the light green areas, then a bit more paynes gray for the trees on the hill.
==============================================================================
At the bottom of the hills mix a dark green with ultramarine blue and cad yellow
and just add a basic tree shapes along the bottom of the hills, then add a bit more cad yellow to add yhe light areas on the trees.
Using the mix of ultramarine and cad yellowpaint in the grass in a downword fashion but a bit to the left and on the top of the fields at the bottom of the trees add some white and blend it into the green, this shows where the light catches the grass and gives a better efect than adding yellow. Then back to yor dark green and add some trees going down the fields.
================================================================================
Ok, as you can see we added some more trees again using the same dark mix and adding a bit more cad yellow plus white to add some light areas to the trees, we are just using the same green mix through out this painting and by doing this it will knit the whole painting together.
================================================================================
Now continue to add the grass right up to the barn going from left to right ( this will give the impression that the field is going down hill in that direction ), now just stipple on a mix of cad yellow and white to add light bits of long grass.
Right now for the barn, first i painted on raw siena again very weak then when dry add the same colour but a bit thicker.
Now you will need a dollop of white , raw siena, and paynes gray and using a small brush just dab on the stone work by adding all three colours on your brush at the same time and same for the stone wall. this may take some practice untill you find your feet as it were to get the random colours of the stone work.
The roof was just paynes gray with a flick of raw siena and some white for the highlights.
================================================================================
Ok we are about finnished now.
The muck track is raw siena burnt siena payns gray and white.
OK the forground grass mix cad yellow and paynes gray for a really lush dark green then add cad yellow with some white stipple or dab with your brush and you should get the effect of grass, again practice this and soon it will all come clear and easy next time.
The tree`s each side, cad yellow paynes gray for both and just make simple tree shape, the add ( yes you know by now ) cad yellow white to add the hight lights to the right hand tree only.
Right, i just used a very weak ( watery ) paynes gray to add the shadows under the eaves and gable end of the barn. the doors are burnt siena and dark umber.
Last sign your name and you are done.
Have fun
Colin....
